The Zewail City of Science, Technology, and Innovation announced the signing of a cooperation protocol with the Egyptian Ministry of Environment in the presence of her Excellency Dr. Yasmine Fouad, Minister of Environment, at the headquarters of Cairo House - Ministry of Environment - in Fustat. In the presence of Dr. Mahmoud Abd Rabou, Acting Executive President of Zewail City, and Dr. Mustafa Badawi, Director of Science and Technology Valley in Zewail City, Dr. Ali Saad Abu Sunna, Head of the Environmental Affairs Agency, and Dr. Tariq Muhammad Al-Arabi, Head of the Waste Management Regulatory Agency.

Within the framework of the role played by the Ministry of Environment in protecting the Egyptian environment, reducing pollution rates, and raising public awareness of environmental aspects, by “increasing the trend towards green economic development that is less dependent on carbon and supporting integrated environmental management systems to provide a healthy environment for citizens and activate the sustainable development policy Inclusion of the environmental dimension in development projects, expansion of support for small and medium-sized projects in the field of environment, addressing the harmful effects of climate change in coordination with the concerned authorities, and preserving natural resources through infrastructure development, development of natural reserves, preservation of marine and wild resources, and upgrading the environmental behaviors of the community. For his part, Dr. Mustafa Badawi, Director of the Valley of Science and Technology in Zewail City, expressed the city's role in benefiting from the activities of professors and students in the field of environmental engineering in order to prepare an environmental awareness program for all students. It is scheduled that Zewail City, in cooperation with the Waste Authority, will provide various services and technical advice in the field of solid waste and hazardous waste, with the first party having the expertise in this field, as it is also scheduled to prepare and review environmental studies for the facilities of recycling and waste treatment of all kinds, evaluate industrial water treatment methods resulting from the various industrial facilities and develop appropriate solutions in order to maximize the benefit from the water recycling process. This is in addition to cooperation with the Environmental Affairs Agency in the fields of scientific research and linking it to environmental monitoring and environmental studies to be an important factor in making future decisions related to industrial projects in order to advance development.
