Inauguration of Zewail City’s Ph.D. Program


Zewail City of Science and Technology is pleased to invite highly qualified researchers to apply for the graduate program in the following four majors:

1. Biomedical Sciences

2. Nanoscale Science

3. Nanoscale Engineering

4. Basic Science (math, physics, chemistry, etc.)


Admission Requirements:


For admission, the minimum requirements to apply for the graduate program are:

  • A bachelor's degree in science, medicine, physics, engineering or any related field, with a minimum GPA of 3.0 or “very good” (75%) from an accredited university/institute.
  • A Master of Science degree is preferred, but not mandatory.
  • Proof of English language proficiency (TOEFL IBT minimum score 80, or IELTS with a minimum score of 6.5).
  • Proof of graduate record examination (GRE) test as follows:

  • Submission of three reference letters, two of which are obtained from professors familiar with the candidate’s work/academic performance. An internal Zewail City supervisor may support applicants with one of the three reference letters.
  • Submission of a statement highlighting the candidate’s interest in the graduate program, the proposed field of study, and reasons for choosing Zewail City of Science and Technology. The statement should not exceed 1000 words.
  • Submission of a letter of acceptance from a supervisor in Zewail City.
  • A satisfactory admission interview with a panel of experts in the proposed field of study.


Successful candidates will be notified via email by September 1, 2016.




  • Applicants from all nationalities are welcome to apply. However, Zewail City offers a limited number of scholarships for highly exceptional Egyptian candidates.
  • Priority will be given to Zewail City applicants (Zewail City research and teaching assistants) based on the availability of research centers’ funds.
  • In case that places are still available, non Zewail City applicants may be accepted if they meet the admission criteria and are capable of securing their own funds.


Time Frame:


  • Deadline for receiving applications: June 30 2016.
  • Notifying short listed applicants for interviews: August 1, 2016 (Overseas applicants can be interviewed through video conference).
  • Notification of the final accepted applications: September 1, 2016.
