Two Zewail City Faculty Members Receive a Research Grant for Developing Zewail City labs and Research Centers

Within the framework of continuous cooperation between Zewail City and the Science, Technology and Innovation Funding Authority (STDF), Professor Ibrahim El Sherbiny and Professor Nagwa El Badri were awarded two major grants as part of the STDF’s Funded Labs Upgrading Grant.

Professor Ibrahim El-Sherbiny, Director of the Nanoscience Program at Zewail City, received a grant of EGP 12.5 million for the development of  the “Smart Materials for Advanced Biomedical Applications Labs” (SMABA), which is the hub for several world-class applied nanomedicine research projects. This lab aims to develop clinically-viable products that can improve the diagnostics, therapeutic outcomes and evade the undesirable side effects of the currently available medications along with developing various tissue substitutes.

Professor Nagwa El-Badri, Director of the Biomedical Sciences Program and Director of the Center of Excellence for Stem Cells and Regenerative Medicine (CESC), received a grant of EGP 10.06 million for the Infrastructure Upgrade and Research Sustainability of “the Center of Excellence for Stem Cells and Regenerative Medicine (CESC)”. This upgrade will facilitate conducting cutting-edge research in regenerative medicine and tissue engineering, for the treatment of endemic and intractable diseases such as diabetes and cancer.

These research grants aim to fulfill the Egypt vision of 2030 in compliance with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of enhancing scientific research, and fulfilling the industrial needs in the areas of regenerative medicine and nanomedicine.
