Zewail City Hosts 5th International Conference on Mathematics and Information Science (ICMIS)

Zewail City of Science and Technology is hosting the 5th International Conference on Mathematics and Information Science (ICMIS) on Thursday, February 11, 2015 in collaboration with the National Committee of International Mathematical Union, Science and Technology Development Fund, African Academy of Science, Natural Science Publishing, and the Egyptian Mathematical Society.

The main goal of the three-day conference is to promote, encourage, and bring together researchers in the field of pure and applied mathematics. The conference also aims to highlight some of the recent mathematical theories that clarify unexplained scientific phenomena and the recent technologies in information security and communications.

“Without a profound understanding of the mathematics involved in the phenomena surrounding us, we can’t develop new industries or make new discoveries,” said Prof. Mahmoud Abdel-Aty, professor of mathematics and information science and chairman of the conference. “This is why the conference will focus on interdisciplinary research involved in various applications,” added Abdel-Aty.

With 270 participants from 25 countries, and 15 keynote speakers from countries, the conference will tackle various topics such as: applied mathematics, renewable energy, coding theory and cryptography, computer science, quantum computation and information, and theoretical physics.

Attending the conference opening ceremony this year are Prof. Alaa Abdelbary, vice chair of the Arab Academy for Science, Technology & Maritime Transport, Gen. Hisham Al-Halabi, advisor at Nasser Higher Military Academy, Prof. Haroon Barakat, head of the promotions committee of professors and associate professors in the Supreme Council of Universities,Prof. Essam Sharaf, professor of road engineering at Cairo University, and Prof. Abdelshafy Obada, president of the Egyptian Mathematical Society.
